Reading with speed

No I talk not of the amphetamine but the actual process of reading very quickly. Having a quick rewind to about 7 years ago I remember experimenting with speed reading. It is a beautiful process once learned. However, it does require practise before the mind adjusts to the increased rate of reading. Imagine the time savings and increase in knowledge absorption if you effectively increase your speed and more then likely your comprehension of what you read (that’s right you’ll no longer be diverting thought with what you are going to eat for lunch mid sentence as your brain won’t have the time).

Speeds should be varied according to materials difficulty and importance of retention along with the fact that your own brain may vary to mine as for uptake with reasonable comprehension (Speaking from experience). After a few tests a finding of about 87% comprehension at 800 words per minute. More then acceptable considering most reading outside of studies really only requires 60%. Increasing the speed to about 1200 words per minute barely had me remembering the title.

Will inform you all if further practise allows for higher speeds whilst maintaining comprehension. An informative lesson outlining steps to learning speed reading is reached by clicking here ‘Learning Speed Reading’

Hope you find the article useful and enjoy the improvement an extra leisure time provided with greater reading speed.
