Tomorrow is a special day here in Australia for us fathers. The first Sunday of every September here in OZ is Father’s Day where we all gather and watch our respective paternalisms pretend to be impressed with their 40th pair of socks. By the way, anybody know the reasoning to such poor present selection when buying for fathers? Why a post on fathering? Perhaps an inference by the 15 million commercials or perhaps when considering what colour socks the old man would like
Truthfully the urge to write stemmed from this quote below. A quote striking significant accord.
By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he’s wrong.
My own flesh and blood is floating at an age of sub-3 so his realisations are yet to be formulated and limited to mimicry so the reason behind raising this abbreviated point was ‘omitting a sentence or two here’… So was my father right? Does not really matter as all that is important that you love and respect each other as father and son. Point to note (when picking out that checkered tie) is your dad (in most normal cases) may only be looking out for your best interests when proclaiming his wisdom which believe it or not is only gained through years and no amount of text or web research will come close to providing the same level of real-world knowledge. That said be weary of the fact that some of the pearls offered are limited to what the adviser (i.e. your dad) feels works best from his own perspective. We are all individuals searching for a path that is our own.. so fathers must also be careful when teaching their children and consider whether what they preach is for their child or themselves. Happy Fathers Day to all…
